What if my baby won't smile?

Cake Smash Sessions

Because turning one deserves a little chaos.

Cake smash sessions are exactly what they sound like. Your baby, a cake, and zero expectations about how clean either of you stay.

Some babies dive in headfirst. Some babies poke it once and look at you like you've made a huge mistake. Both are great photos.

What to expect

We'll start with a few classic first birthday photos while everyone's still clean. Then the cake comes out, and from there, we just follow your baby's lead.

Some kids go straight for it. Some need a minute to warm up. Some end up wearing more cake than they ate. All of it makes for the best kind of photos, the ones that actually look like your baby on their first birthday, not a posed version of it.

What you'll need

A cake (smash cakes are easy to order from most local bakeries, or homemade works just as well)

An outfit you don't mind getting messy, or a backup outfit for after

A towel or wipes nearby for the inevitable cleanup

Where we do it

Cake smash sessions work great outdoors, in your home, or in studio, whatever fits your style. If you're going for the classic high chair and balloons look, that's an easy in home or studio setup. If you'd rather do it outside on a blanket in the grass, that works beautifully too.

We'll figure out the details together once you book.

The First Year Bundle

Because one session can't hold an entire year of changes.

This one's for parents who want to document the whole ride, not just one moment. You pick four milestones throughout your baby's first year, sitting up, crawling, first birthday, whatever matters most to you, and we capture each one as it happens.

How it works

You choose your four sessions based on your baby's milestones, not a strict schedule. Some families space them out every few months. Some wait until something actually happens before booking the next one. Either way works. The bundle needs to be used within 12 months of booking.

Each session follows the same relaxed approach as our regular milestone sessions, outdoor, in-home, or studio, whatever fits that stage best.

  • Whenever the milestone is happening, or right before. Sitting up, crawling, first birthday, whatever stage you want to capture, just reach out and we'll find a time that works.

  • Yes! Cake smash sessions are one of the most popular milestone bookings, especially for first birthdays. Just let me know that's what you're after when you book.

  • Just a cake and an outfit you don't mind getting messy. Smash cakes are easy to order from most local bakeries, or homemade works just as well. I'll bring everything else and handle the cleanup talk so you don't have to think about it.

  • Always. Parents and siblings are welcome to jump in for a few photos during the session, no extra charge.

  • Totally normal. We build in plenty of wiggle breaks and snack breaks, and we just go at your baby's pace.
