You won't be engaged forever.

Which is kind of the whole point.

Right now, there's a shiny new ring you still catch yourself staring at, about 47 wedding tabs open on your phone, and somehow every conversation ends with, “Wait... should we add that to the wedding too?”

There are dresses to try on, flowers to choose, seating charts to figure out and a wedding date that suddenly means everything.

But before all of that, there's this.

The two of you, ridiculously in love and about to get married.

For a little while, you get to call each other fiancé.

You get to be somewhere between “Will you marry me?” and “I do.”

And I think that deserves its own photos.

Your engagement session is your excuse to forget about the wedding checklist for a minute, dress up, love on each other, show off that ring, and document what this season actually feels like.

We'll choose one of my favorite Knoxville engagement photo locations or go somewhere that feels completely you. I'll guide you through the awkward hands, give you direction when you need it, and leave plenty of room for the laughing, loving, and little in-between moments that happen all on their own.

Because someday, you'll have the wedding photos.

These are the photos of when you couldn't wait to get there.

I photograph engagement sessions throughout Knoxville, Maryville, and East Tennessee for couples who want their photos to feel natural, romantic, fun, and completely like them.

And yes, we'll definitely get a really good photo of that ring.

This is where we make it yours.

There isn't one right way to do an engagement session.

Maybe you want to dress up and spend the evening somewhere beautiful in Maryville or Knoxville. Maybe you want bare feet in the grass, champagne on a picnic blanket, or your dog running around somewhere in the background. Maybe you've had a Pinterest board ready since approximately five minutes after the proposal.

Bring it.

Your engagement photos should have a little bit of you tucked into them.

We'll choose an engagement photo location around Knoxville, Maryville, or anywhere in East Tennessee that fits the feeling you want, talk about outfits, look through your inspiration, and figure out the little details before your session ever starts.

And when we're actually there? You don't have to perform for my camera.

As your Maryville engagement photographer, I'll give you direction, fix the awkward hands, move you into the good light, and help when you need me. But I also know when to stop directing and let something happen.

Because sometimes the photo we planned is beautiful.

And sometimes the best one is what happens two seconds after it.

Now, where are we taking these photos?

This might be one of my favorite parts.

Your location sets the whole mood for your engagement photos. We can go romantic and timeless, clean and editorial, green and outdoorsy, cozy and intimate... or somewhere that doesn't fit neatly into any of those boxes but feels completely like the two of you.

As a Maryville and Knoxville engagement photographer, I've photographed couples all around East Tennessee, and I've definitely collected a few favorite engagement photo locations along the way.

These are some of the places I love and recommend:

The Holmstead Studio | Knoxville, TN

If you want your engagement photos to feel intimate, romantic, and a little more elevated, The Holmstead Studio is such a beautiful choice.

With its bright indoor spaces, glass house, open fields, and beautiful natural light, we can create several completely different looks without spending half of your session driving around Knoxville.

It's especially beautiful for couples who want that soft, warm, editorial feeling while still keeping their photos natural and relaxed.

Best for: romantic, intimate, editorial and light-filled engagement photos.

Knoxville Botanical Garden | Knoxville, TN

If you can't decide between flowers, greenery, stone architecture, open spaces and a little bit of everything... this one makes the decision for you.

The Knoxville Botanical Garden gives us so much variety to work with, which makes it one of my favorite outdoor locations for engagement photos in Knoxville.

We can wander instead of staying in one little spot, giving your gallery plenty of variety while still feeling like one complete story.

Best for: romantic, garden-inspired, colorful and timeless engagement photos.

The Bleak House | Knoxville, TN

For the couple who wants something a little more classic.

The Bleak House in Knoxville has beautiful historic architecture, columns, greenery and gardens that give engagement photos a timeless, almost wedding-day feeling without actually putting on the wedding dress yet.

Dress this location up a little and it is so good.

Best for: elegant, timeless, romantic and slightly more formal engagement photos.

The White Room Studio | Knoxville, TN

Clean, bright and completely weather-proof. We love to see it.

The White Room Studio in Knoxville is perfect if you want your engagement photos to feel simple, modern and focused completely on the two of you.

A studio session also gives us more control over the light and lets us create something intimate without worrying about rain, wind, Tennessee humidity or whether the sun has decided to disappear behind a cloud at the worst possible moment.

Best for: modern, minimal, intimate and editorial engagement photos.

Sequoyah Hills Park | Knoxville, TN

Give me golden-hour light, big trees and room to move around and I'm happy.

Sequoyah Hills Park is one of my favorite outdoor engagement photo locations in Knoxville for couples who want something relaxed and natural without needing a studio or formal setting.

It's perfect for walking, movement, cuddling up in the grass and letting the session feel more like an evening together than a photoshoot.

Best for: natural, relaxed, playful and golden-hour engagement photos.

Bicentennial Park | Maryville, TN

And we can't forget Maryville.

Bicentennial Park is a beautiful option for couples looking for engagement photos closer to Maryville, with greenery, trees, walking paths and plenty of little pockets where we can create a gallery that feels relaxed and natural.

It's especially great if you want an outdoor Maryville engagement session without making the drive into Knoxville.

Best for: casual, natural and laid-back engagement photos.

But you don't have to choose one of my favorites.

These are recommendations, not a rulebook.

Have a place where you had your first date? Let's go there.

Want photos on your family's property? Show me.

Found a field you're obsessed with? Send it over.

Want to grab coffee, walk around downtown, rent a completely different studio or turn your engagement session into a little date night? I'm listening.

I photograph engagement sessions throughout Maryville, Knoxville and East Tennessee, so if you already have a location in mind, tell me about it. And if you have absolutely no idea where you want to go, that's okay too.

Tell me the feeling you want, and I'll help you find the place that fits it.

Please note: Some studios and private locations, including The Holmstead Studio, The White Room Studio and Bleak House, require an additional location or rental fee. Plan for approximately $60 when choosing one of these locations. I'll go over any applicable location fees with you before we finalize your session.

Now let's make you two look GOOD.

You already have the location. Now comes the question I know is coming:

“Okay... but what do we wear?”

Don't worry, I'm not going to send you into your closet alone and hope for the best.

Once we choose your Knoxville or Maryville engagement session location, we'll talk about outfits that actually make sense for the place, the season, and the feeling you want your photos to have.

Want something romantic and elevated? Dress it up.

Want your photos to feel relaxed and playful? Keep it comfortable and a little more casual.

Want an excuse to buy the dress that's been sitting in your cart for three weeks?

I'm certainly not going to stop you.

I usually recommend coordinating rather than matching, choosing colors that work well together, and staying away from anything that will distract from the two of you. But more than anything, I want you to wear something that makes you look in the mirror and think, Yep. We look GOOD.

And you're never on your own with this part.

Send me outfit options. Send me screenshots. Send me the Pinterest board. Send me the “I love this dress but I have no idea what he should wear” text.

We'll figure it out together.

Because when you feel good walking into your engagement session, it shows in every single photo.

Okay, but what do I actually get?

A young woman and man standing inside a bright, white brick building with large arched windows. The woman is wearing a white dress with spaghetti straps and sandals, and the man is wearing a white shirt, white pants, and brown shoes. They are close together, with the woman's head resting on the man's shoulder and her eyes closed.
Natural engagement photography at Bleak House in Knoxville, Tennessee

A lot more than showing up, taking a few photos, and calling it a day.

Your engagement session starts before I ever pick up my camera.

We'll choose the right location, talk through the look you're going for, plan your outfits, and go over any ideas you've been saving. I want to know what you're excited about and what you absolutely don't want, too.

Then comes the fun part.

We'll spend your session creating a mix of the photos you know you want and the ones you didn't know you needed. The looking-at-the-camera ones for Mom. The romantic ones you'll probably frame. The close-ups of that ring. The laughing ones. The quiet ones. And all those little moments in between.

Afterward, I'll hand-edit your images in my natural, warm and timeless style and deliver them in a beautiful online gallery where you can download, share, save and stare at them approximately 700 times.

No judgment. I'd do it too.

Every Knoxville and Maryville engagement session is planned around the two of you, because I don't want to hand you a gallery that could belong to any couple.

I want you to look through it and see yours.

And then comes the really good part.

Your engagement session might be the first time we work together, but it doesn't have to be the last.

There is something pretty special about showing up on your wedding day and already knowing the person behind the camera.

You already know how I work.

I already know which little prompts make you laugh, which side you naturally stand on, how the two of you interact, and when you need direction versus when I should just let you have the moment.

So when the wedding day arrives, we're not starting from zero.

We're picking up where we left off.

As a Knoxville and East Tennessee wedding and engagement photographer, I love getting to photograph both parts of the story. The season when you're counting down the days, and then the day you've been counting down to.

From the ring...

to the vows...

to the we actually did it.

If you're still looking for your wedding photographer too, you might have just found her.

A few things you might be wondering...

When should we take our engagement photos?

Anytime! If you're using them for save-the-dates, I recommend booking earlier. Otherwise, choose the season you love and we'll go from there.

Where can we take our engagement photos?

Anywhere that feels like you! I have favorite Knoxville and Maryville engagement photo locations, but you're never limited to my list. I'm always up for somewhere new.

Can you help us choose a location?

Absolutely. Tell me the look you're going for and I'll help you find a location around Knoxville, Maryville, or East Tennessee that fits.

Can we bring more than one outfit?

Yes! One dressier outfit and one more casual look is a great way to add variety to your engagement gallery.

We'll watch the forecast and decide together whether to adjust the time, choose an indoor location, or reschedule.

Do you travel outside Knoxville and Maryville?

Yes! I photograph engagement sessions throughout East Tennessee and am always happy to talk about a location a little farther away.
