Photography FAQ
You have questions. I probably have answers.
Booking photos comes with approximately 700 little questions.
What do we wear? Where do we go? What if my toddler decides today is the day they hate everyone? What if it rains? When should I book newborn photos? Do you photograph small weddings?
This page is for all of it.
I'm a Maryville photographer serving Knoxville and East Tennessee, specializing in weddings, engagements, maternity, newborns, families, milestones, and graduation photography.
Find your session below, get your questions answered, and if there's something I missed, just ask me.

-
I'm based in Maryville, Tennessee and regularly photograph sessions throughout Knoxville and the surrounding East Tennessee area.

The earlier, the better, especially for weddings, fall sessions, and busy seasonal dates. For regular portrait sessions, reach out as soon as you know you're ready and we'll find a date that works.
-
Absolutely. I have favorite photo locations throughout Maryville and Knoxville, including parks, gardens, downtown areas, and studios. Tell me the feeling you're looking for and I'll help you find the place that fits.
-
Yes. Depending on the session, we can photograph outdoors, at home, or rent one of several beautiful photography studios around Knoxville. Studio and private-location rental fees are additional.
-
Once we know your location and the look you want, I'll help you coordinate outfits. You don't need to perfectly match. You just need to look like you belong in the same photo.
-
For outdoor sessions, we'll keep an eye on the Tennessee weather and decide whether adjusting the time, changing locations, or rescheduling makes the most sense.
-
Most portrait galleries are delivered within 1–2 weeks. Wedding and event galleries have different turnaround times depending on the coverage.
Wedding Photography FAQ
-
I photograph weddings, micro weddings, elopements, courthouse ceremonies, and intimate weddings throughout Maryville, Knoxville, and East Tennessee. Big celebration or just the two of you, I want your photos to feel like your day actually felt.
-
It depends on your day and what you want documented. A small ceremony may only need a few hours, while getting ready, ceremony, portraits, and reception usually need longer coverage. Tell me what you're planning and I'll help you choose.
-
Absolutely. We'll talk through everything you want photographed and make sure we have enough time for the important parts without making your wedding day feel like one long photoshoot.
-
You definitely don't have to, but a first look can give us more time for couple and family portraits before the ceremony. If you're trying to decide, I'll help you look at your timeline and figure out what makes the most sense for your wedding.
-
Please do! Pinterest is great for showing me the feeling you're drawn to: romantic, editorial, candid, timeless, fun, detail-heavy. We'll use it as inspiration without trying to recreate someone else's wedding.
-
Weddings run late sometimes. We'll build a realistic photography timeline beforehand and adjust as needed on the day. I'm not going to panic because hair and makeup took an extra 15 minutes.
-
Then we work with it. We'll look for covered areas, indoor options, breaks in the weather, or grab the umbrellas if you're up for it. Rain doesn't mean you don't get beautiful wedding photos.
-
Yes! I'm based in Maryville, Tennessee and photograph weddings throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee. I'm happy to travel farther too; depending on the location, an additional travel fee may apply.
-
Absolutely. You don't need 150 guests for your wedding to deserve beautiful photos. I offer shorter coverage options that work especially well for East Tennessee elopements, courthouse weddings, and micro weddings.
-
If my schedule allows it, yes. If your plans change and you realize you need more time, reach out as soon as possible and we'll talk about your options.
-
The number depends on how many hours of coverage you book and how your wedding day unfolds. You'll receive a full gallery of professionally edited images that tells the story of your day from the details to the big moments and everything happening between them.
-
You'll receive sneak peeks first so you don't have to wait forever to see yourself MARRIED. Your full wedding gallery will follow within the turnaround time listed in your wedding package and contract.
-
Yes! I love photographing my wedding couples before the big day. An engagement session in Knoxville, Maryville, or East Tennessee gives us a chance to work together beforehand, and by the time your wedding arrives, I'm already a familiar face behind the camera.
-
Absolutely. I don't need to have photographed your venue before to create beautiful images there. I'll familiarize myself with the location and your plans beforehand so I arrive prepared.
-
Yes, depending on availability. If you'd like rehearsal dinner coverage, a welcome party, bridal portraits, or another wedding event photographed, ask me and we can talk about adding it to your coverage.
Engagement & Couples Photography FAQ
-
Golden hour is my favorite for outdoor engagement sessions in Knoxville and Maryville. That soft light right before sunset is hard to beat. For studio sessions, we have a little more flexibility depending on the space and natural light.
-
Most engagement sessions last 30-1h, that give us plenty of time to settle in, explore the location, change outfits if you'd like, and create a good mix of romantic, fun, and natural photos without feeling rushed.
-
Not at all! Dating, married, celebrating an anniversary, or just realizing you haven't had a good photo together since 2019... that's reason enough. Couples sessions are for anyone who wants to document the two of them right now.
-
Start with something that makes you feel GOOD. I recommend coordinating instead of matching and choosing outfits that fit your location and the feeling you want. And yes, you can always send me outfit options beforehand. I love helping with this part!
-
Yes, and I love when it is. Your first-date spot, family property, favorite downtown street, or somewhere you spend time together can make your photos even more personal.
Maternity Photography FAQ
-
I typically recommend 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully visible but you're usually still comfortable enough to move around.
-
Absolutely. Your maternity session isn't only about your bump. It's about the family waiting to meet this baby, so partners and siblings are always welcome.
-
Maternity sessions can take place outdoors around Maryville or Knoxville, in a studio, or better yet in your home. I'll help you choose a location that fits the look you want.
-
Yes! If you want to document both pregnancy and those first tiny newborn days, maternity and newborn sessions can be booked together as a bundle.
Newborn Photography FAQ
-
Before baby arrives! We'll plan around your due date and choose the actual session date once your baby makes their entrance.
-
My newborn sessions are relaxed and photographed in your home, so you don't have to pack up your brand-new baby and half your house to get beautiful photos.
-
Then we have a very normal newborn. We'll stop for feeding, diaper changes, cuddles, and whatever else your baby needs. The session follows baby, not the clock.
-
Of course. They're part of this new chapter too. We'll photograph baby alone as well as parents, siblings, and your family together.
-
Absolutely not. We only need a little good light and enough space to work. Nobody is coming to inspect your laundry pile.
Family Photography FAQ
-
Not even a little. Your kids are allowed to be kids. We'll walk, play, cuddle, explore, and work with whatever mood they bring that day.
-
Absolutely. Grandparents, grown children, and extended family members can all be included. Just let me know who's coming so we can plan enough time.
-
YES. Just tell me ahead of time and bring whatever treats, leash, or favorite squeaky thing helps get their attention.
-
Yes. For larger groups, I recommend a longer family session so we have enough time for the entire family plus smaller groupings.
Milestone & Graduation Photography FAQ
-
Sitting up, crawling, first birthdays, missing teeth, or any little stage you don't want to forget. Milestone sessions aren't limited to one specific age.
-
Yes! We'll focus on your little one, but parents and siblings are welcome to jump in for photos too.
-
Absolutely. A favorite toy, blanket, birthday item, graduation gear, flowers, or something sentimental can make the session feel more personal.
-
Yes. Bring whatever represents this season and what you accomplished. We'll make the session feel like you instead of creating a collection of identical cap-and-gown poses.
Still have a question?
If you made it all the way down here and I somehow didn't answer it, send it my way.
Every family, couple, wedding, baby, and session is a little different. That's kind of what makes this fun.
Whether you're looking for a photographer in Maryville, Knoxville, or elsewhere in East Tennessee, I'm happy to talk through the details before you book.
